This year’s event is being held in association with activities marking the 90th anniversary of the debut of the book ‘Duong kach menh’ (Revolutionary Path) by President Ho Chi Minh.
In order to create an impressive cultural space in the capital, the opening ceremony, with a thematic focus on ‘Book and the development of community knowledge’, along with a book festival (from April 6-10), will be the highlights of the 2017 Vietnam Book Day. The events aim to inculcate cultural values among people from all walks of life.
The book festival will introduce 40,000 book titles with diverse themes and fields, including politics, law, economy, science and technology, education, culture, society and religion. The books have been published by 80 publishing houses and companies from across the country.
As part of the programme, there will be around 20 events, including exchange activities between writers and readers, seminars, forums, talk shows on subjects related to outstanding books and current issues.
During the book festival, the participating units will offer a discount programme for publications.
The Vietnam Book Day aims to encourage the reading movement as well as honour exemplary people who have contributed significantly to the development of reading culture among the community.
